Causes and Preventions for Nappy Rashes
July 1, 2009
Infants are not matured enough to control their responses towards nature’s call. Thus, diapers or the ready napkins are the best possible options available over the counters for them. It helps them to stay clean and dry and thus, keeps the mother free for some time. But frequent usage of diapers may result in nappy rashes.
They mainly occur in the genital area and in between the thighs of the babies and are extremely painful and irritating and will leave your child disturbed. Today I will discuss about the several reasons for occurrence of nappy rashes and also the remedies to it.
Causes:
One of the most important reasons for nappy rashes is that babies urinate and pass loose bowels frequently and these wastes gets accumulated in the diapers and stays for long. This causes skin infections and they are commonly known as nappy rashes. The wetness in the diaper creates a sense of irritation and the germs in the bowel will result in infection.
Another reason is the quality of diaper you are using. Nowadays large numbers of diapers are available over the counter and they differ in terms of quality. Thus, if you should be cautious while buying a diaper for your kid as babies with sensitive and dry skin are more prone towards nappy rashes.
Some times we use non disposable diapers. They are soft pieces of clean cloths folded like thick pads to give comfort to the child. These diapers if not cleaned properly might have remnants of detergents that will cause nappy rash to the baby.
Precautions:
Keep your child clean and dry. You should change the diapers often irrespective of the fact that they have high absorbent power. Do not keep your child wrapped in diapers for long.
Once you see that the kid has excreted in the diaper open it and clean his genital area properly with water and than pat it dry with a soft piece of cloth. Always avoid rubbing the child’s skin hard as this might bring up rashes. Do not tie the diaper in wet skin as this will cause rashes.
Do not keep the kid wrapped in a diaper all the time. Leave it open, without a diaper most of the time. However, whenever you tie it make sure that it is loose enough to allow air circulation. Otherwise there are high chances of occurrence of nappy rashes.
During summer the genital area gets wet automatically due to heavy perspiration. Thus, avoid tying the diaper around your kid during this season as much as you can. This will prevent nappy rashes.
