Ways To Manage Frizzy Hair
Having Frizzy hair, is a problem faced by alot of women. In reality no one is born with frizzy hair. It is just the result of the breakage of what was once curly or wavy hair.
What Causes This Breakage?
Harsh handling of the hair, is the main cause. Women with curly hair tend to be a bit rough while combing especially when wet is a very common cause.
Using Metal Combs Can Also Damage The Hair.
Even the way we wipe our hair can have a damaging effect on the cuticles and lead to split ends. Be gentle and blot dry your hair of the excessive water, instead of using the towel aggressively.
Humidity also causes hair damage by expanding the cuticle. Sometimes to combat this we use a hair smoothening serum, but prologed usage of this can cause your hair to become dull and lose its shine.
Treating The Frizz
If you want to treat the frizz and bring it under your control, then just ordinary shampooing or conditioning is not enough. You need to put in more effort in taking care of your hair.
Step 1
learn to like your curly or wavy hair. Trying to straighten it out will only cause more breakage and damage.
Step 2
Don’t shampoo your hair too often, as shampoo tends to dry out your hair. If you must wash your on a daily basis then atleast dilute your shampoo with equal amount of water before you apply it.
Step 3
Since frizzy hair is dry, you need to keep it well moistured. Use a good conditioner, leave it in the hair for a few minutes and then rinse it off well. Whenever you get the extra time, wrap your hair in a hot towl with the conditioner on and leave it for about five minutes. The heat from the towel will activate the conditioner. Rinse of well and remember to blot out the excess water.
While applying the moisturerizer, see that you put on a bit more at the tips of the hair as this is where it is the most dry.
Its a good idea to invest in a leave-in conditioner. But even otherwise, its better to let the conditioner to sit for a few minutes before you rinse it off. And look for conditioners that have ingredients like aloe vera, vitamin E and panthenol
Applying an egg yolk about half hour before washing your hair also helps as a moisturerizer.
Step 4
Another way to prevent frizzy hair is to use a frizz control product. They come in different forms. the serums and gels are easier to apply. But again, don’t use too much of these as they can dullen your hair in the long run.
Step 5
Eventhough blow drying your hair can cause dryness and leave your hair looking more frizzy, you can follow the simple tips while blow drying
the hair at the crown of your head drys the fastest, so use clips to move this hair aside so that you can reach the lower sections of hair. use the warm setting on the dryer. keep moving the dryer so as to avoid any one particular part of hair getting overheated.
don’t hold the dryer too close to your head. direct the warm air along the direction of hair growth so that you don’t end up ruffling the hair up
try to get yourself one of the modern ceramic blow dryers
Step 6
You can follow a few home remedies to control your frizzy hair.
After a hair wash, you could rinse your hair with ‘carbonated or sparkling water’ as they have low pH levels
A final rinse with equal parts of ‘apple cider vinegar’ and water is also a good therapy for frizzy hair and it also brings out a shine.
Another unconventional method would be ‘beer’. Dark beer provides the required nutrition and mositure. Coat your hair with the beer and let it sit for a few minutes before you wash it off with cold water. Washing your hair with cold water helps to remove the smell of the beer too.
Step 7
Finally, getting yourself a perfect hairstyle to cover the friz, is a good idea. A blunt cut usually works the best. But if you have thick hair, then maybe you can ask the stylist to layer it inorder to remove the bulk.
You also have a choice between having your hair curly or straight. If you opt for a curly style, then you can use curlers on your hair after having gelled it. Overnight curlers are also agood option.
If you are thinking of a straight style, then blowdry your hair by using a round brush. You would need to blowdry section by section. This will take sometime, so be patient.
An easier way is just to grow your hair long as shorter hair tends to friz up easier. With long hair, the weight on the curls tends to reduce the curls and the hair stays straighter for a longer time.
After you have styled your hair and it is completely dry, you can apply 2-3 drops of Safflower oil and apply this to the ends of your hair. Don’t apply too much or else your hair might look sticky.
Do not go in for a perm as some people might advice you to do. The chemicals used in this process causes damage to the hair. But the ‘spot perm’ maybe a good thing to do if you have anyone paticular part of hair that might need it, For example, for some people the top of their hair sits flat. A spot perm would help here.
To sum it all up, just remember that everyone have their fair share of hair problems and bad hair days. No matter what type of hair we have, we need to take good care of it. Just wear any look or style with confidence and no body would actually notice anything out of the way. Your hair is as important as anyother part of your body, so give it all the attention it needs and you won’t be sorry.
